London based Alex Hull is one of the most admired artists. Since a young age, he had a passion for working with natural materials and building things with your own hands.
This was inspired by his father, a timber specialist and a keen joiner. Hull studied Product and Furniture Design at Nottingham Trent University focusing its practice on pushing the craft to its absolute limit.
He was one of the designers exhibit in the Gallery FUMI booth atThe Salon Art + Design NY 2018.

For the event Alex Hull, choose the emblematic ‘Line chair’, a masterpiece creation in bronze.
Alex was invited by curator Polina Angelova to respond to Frank Gehry’s architecture. The challenge was to relinquish some of the strict control over organic curves that characterises his work.

The chair was designed spontaneously, with a single swirl of a pen on paper, allowing the inertia of the movement to take over
The artist worked with master blacksmith Andrew Langley, who used hot and cold hand forging techniques to make the solid bronze bar follow the curves of the sketch.

In 2012 the designer, Polina Parshina and David Winter set up multidisciplinary Hull Studio, working on art pieces, private commissions, product and installation design. Their work can be next seen at some of the most important international events.
To had the opportunity to expose his work at The Salon Art + Design NY 2018 was a great honour. His piece was one of the highlights of Gallery FUMI booth.

The artist considered himself a ‘control freak and letting go is not something that comes naturally’. So, we use the art and design to express himself and create unique pieces.
Now that the event is over, Hull is preparing new exquisite creations to amaze the world of design and craftsmanship.
