Homo Faber 2018 is one of the most unexpected events and it has finally opened its doors to the public at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, San Giorgio Maggiore island, Venice. Organised by the prestigious Michelangelo Foundation, the first major cultural exhibition dedicated to European craftsmanship aims to craft a more human future and to celebrate the beauty of the world.

The big Opening Ceremony was graced by the presence and official speeches of Johann Rupert and Franco Cologni. From today, 14th September, the public will be free to explore Homo Faber and its 16 event spaces, each imagined by a team of world-class designers, curators and architects, showcase the skills, knowledge and creativity of Europe’s finest artisans and designers.

The first major exhibition dedicated to craftsmanship and its link to design is open from today after the ribbon was cut at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini. Franco Cologni and Johann Rupert, the founders of the Michelangelo Foundation, were joined by Luigi Brugnaro, the Mayor of Venice, and Giovanni Bazoli, the President of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, as they lifted the lid on this unprecedented exhibition.

Held on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, one of the most beautiful locations in Venice, the cultural event aims will remind the public of the value of the human hand, celebrating the excellence of artisans all over Europe and the creativity of the designers who harness their incredible craftsmanship.

An immersive experience, Homo Faber offers visitors an unprecedented opportunity to meet artisans and watch them work. Regular live demonstrations, practical workshops, a programme of lively talks and several evening concerts will bring visitors closer to craftsmanship.

Each of its 16 exhibit spaces focuses on a different aspect of craftsmanship. They have been imagined by a world-class team of curators, architects and designers, including Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, London-based professor of fashion Judith Clark, gallerist Jean Blanchaert, acclaimed architect Stefano Boeri and Parisian interior designer India Mahdavi.

Featuring 4,000 square metres of space, visitors at Homo Faber 2018 have the chance to see exquisite pieces, including jewellery, artwork, bespoke designs and accessories, cars and automotives, decorative tableware, sculptures. etc as well as innovative installations and live showcases of artisans practicing their craft.

Homo Faber 2018 is the first edition and it has free admission. It will be open from the 14th until the 30th of September, offering the public a rare opportunity to explore the island and the magnificent complex of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, including areas that are generally accessible to the public.
