The world is getting ready to explore The Salon Art+Design NY 2018 and the art galleries are preparing their best collectible designs to showcase at the exhibition. The brilliant Friedman Benda from New York City is no exception.
In this years’ edition, Friedman’s exclusive art collection is called Dialogue and will bring together three of the best new designers inspired by the finest works of art of the Italian architect and designer, Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007).
The first of those three new voices, Misha Kahn (b. 1989), is an American designer describes Sottsass as someone that presents a “willingness to swim upstream against conventional taste”. This is one of his qualities that every master artist should admire and try to emulate.
The British artist Jonathan Trayte (b. 1980) merges several different influences in his best designs thanks to his background as a chef and master craftsman focused in metal work. He explains: “I grew up in the 80’s between South Africa and Yorkshire, spending a lot of my childhood in the bush. I had no idea who Sottsass was, but his striking and experimental work permeated through popular culture. His cross-disciplinary approach to design and architecture is an inspiration”.
Last but not least, the Switzerland-based designer Ini Archibong (b. 1983) will make his first appearance with an exclusive glass chandelier called Vernus. This is his opening collaboration with Friedman Benda. Archibong says “Sottsass’ refined forms made me realize, not to fear exposing my inner complexities for the sake of delivering what is expected from me. To be willing to reinvent myself, and to make design with a sense of sensuality”.
We can’t wait to see this design master pieces live in The Salon Art+Design NY 2018.
